Credential Service Provider Usability Study Recruitment Announcement
Why we are doing this study
The MITRE Corporation is conducting an independent usability study of Credential Service Providers (CSP) on behalf of the Internal Revenue Service (IRS). See the Privacy Civil Liberty Impact Assessment for this study (#5528) on IRS.gov.
A Credential Service Provider (CSP) is a third-party service that allows you to log in to government and business systems by confirming your identity.
The IRS has hired MITRE to perform this research to better understand taxpayer experiences with Credential Service Providers (CSP).
Your feedback will help the IRS improve identity proofing services for taxpayers.
What to expect as a participant
Reward
As a token of our appreciation, you will receive your choice of an Amazon gift card or check for consenting to and participating in this study.
Steps in Study
As a participant in this study, we will provide you a link to create an account with a secure and reputable Credential Service Provider (CSP). Because we want your feedback on the process of creating a CSP account, we ask you to complete a usability survey before and after creating the account.
The CSP will ask you to verify your identity by providing personal information such as your email, phone number, social security number (SSN#), and driver’s license.
The information you provide to the CSP will not be stored. We will give you instructions to delete your CSP account at the end of the study.
Consent and Confidentiality
Consent
Taking part in MITRE research is voluntary. You may withdraw from the study at any time.
Confidentiality
Your identity will be kept anonymous and encrypted throughout this study. No personal information will be shared with the IRS at any time.
If you choose not to participate in the study or withdraw from participating at any time, MITRE will remove any of your collected responses.
MITRE’s mission-driven teams are dedicated to solving problems for a safer world. Through our public-private partnerships and federally funded R&D centers, we work across government and in partnership with industry to tackle challenges to the safety, stability, and well-being of our nation.
This study is being conducted under Office of Management and Budget (OMB) Approval Number 1545-2256. The MITRE Corporation is conducting this study for the IRS.
