Title: Manufacturing Traceability Ecosystems (EV batteries, microelectronics, etc)
Project ID: qwvpO24
Domain(s): Systems Engineering,Multidisciplinary,Economics and Cost Analysis,Data Science,Cybersecurity,Autonomy
Description:
https://www.nccoe.nist.gov/projects/manufacturing-supply-chain-traceability-using-blockchain-related-technologies
The Traceability Chain effort at NIST NCCoE (see linked Project Description) describes an ecosystem and blockchain approach to create and use manufacturing Traceability Chains of pedigree and provenance information for critical manufactured goods.
This project will explore how affinity groups of manufacturers choose to cooperate and establish ecosystems and share a blockchain traceability ledger, form relationships with other similar ecosystems, and establish governance for long-lived ecosystems, thus enabling long-lived Traceability Chains which span ecosystems.
This project is applicable to a wide variety of uses ranging from tracking and tracing electric vehicle battery components, to associated sensitive microelectronics.
Desired Skills:
Behavioral science
Business and economics
Data and computer science (including blockchain)
Clearance-
US Citizenship Required: No
Active Clearance or Background Investigation Required: No
Level Needed:
Team Information-
Targeted Students: Grad,Undergrad
Team Size: 2 to 4
Details: Ideally will include multiple students to cover behavioral, business, and data / comp sci skill strengths, enabling a 360-degree exploration of how and why cooperative ecosystems of potential competitors / stakeholders could form and join into an ecosystem which provides a “common defense” of traceability mechanisms that will benefit all stakeholders (manufacturers, consumers, etc.).
Potential for discussions with industry leaders in microelectronics and NIST NCCoE.
Specific Requirements-
Focus on Particular University: No
Details:
Timeline-
Focus Timeline: Yes
Details: Completion by end of Spring 2025, latest. Earlier is better, such as Fall 2024.
Funding-
Potential Funding:No
Note: Availability of funds not guaranteed
